Protest to Commemorate the Mongolian Unrest

On May 14th, 2014 in commemoration of the third anniversary of the latest Southern Mongolians’ Unrest and to raise the concerns of human rights abuses in Southern Mongolia, IMPP held a protest in front of Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C.

The demonstration lasted from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm EST. Members of IMPP gathered in front of Chinese embassy with signs reading, “Release Hada now”, “Free Southern Mongolia”, “We Support Mongolian Herders” and demanded Chinese authorities stop their repressive actions against the ethnic Mongolian population in Southern Mongolia.

According to the Southern Mongolian Human Rights Information Center (SMHRIC), On May 4th, Local Mongolian herders in Alshaa League, Southern Mongolia organized a peaceful protest to demand the return of illegally seized land by the government. The Chinese authorities used machine guns to forcefully quell this peaceful demonstration. Nine days later, Chinese authorities extradited two Southern Mongolian exiles Mr.Dalaibaatar and Mr.Tulguur Norovrinchen from Mongolia to China. Meanwhile another Southern Mongolian Mr.Alhaa Norovtseren is facing deportation as well ( The IMPP condemns this recent violent crack down on Southern Mongolians by the Chinese authorities. Once again, IMPP demands Chinese authorities to release Mr.Hada from house arrest and leave his family alone. It is widely known that Mr. Hada already served 15 years in prison under allegations of, “Conspiring to overthrow the regime” and is currently under house arrest after his release from prison since 2012.

Last but not the least, the IMPP sincerely hopes that the Mongolian Government, an independent country with its own national sovereignty, can stand up on its feet to say no to Chinese government on illegally extraditing Southern Mongolian political activists from Mongolia to China.
